First book published by BAEN in the Fifth Millenium series. Actually the third in the chronological order of events in the books. Snowbrother and Saber and Shadow are set prior to the events of the Cage.

In the Cage Megan Whitlock and Shkai'ra Mek-Kermek's-kin return to Megan's homeland in an attempt to wreak vengeance on Habiku Smoothtongue who previously sold Megan into slavery. Along the way Megan an Shkai'ra meet many of Megan's old crew mates and family and gather the forces necessary to attack Habiku.
